Word-obsessed and a total strategy nerd

I wrote short stories as a child, and studied poetry after a degree in film. Telling stories is what has always made me tick, but when I found out I could use that to help brands win, I knew I’d stumbled upon my dream career.

Now I’m a mum of a seriously cute baby boy, I live by the sea, and I’m still just as obsessed with finding words that fit like perfect puzzle pieces.

I combine my deep love of writing and the methods + processes I’ve built over the years to power up brands’ messaging. And it’s the best job in the world.

FAQs

My services & expertise

What copywriting services do you offer for startups and small businesses?

The full spectrum of word magic that growing brands need! Website copy that converts, brand messaging frameworks that clarify, blog content that educates, case studies that impress, email sequences that nurture, and sales copy that — you guessed it — sells. Whatever words your business needs to move mountains, I can craft them with strategy and spark.

What different copywriting services do you provide?

I write website copy that makes visitors stick around, manage blogs that build authority, develop brand messaging frameworks (my signature strategic offering), write case studies that showcase your wins, and more. Think of me as your one-stop word shop.

Do you offer strategy services or just writing?

Words without strategy are just pretty decorations! I firmly believe effective copy needs solid thinking behind it—that's why strategic elements are baked into everything I create. My brand messaging frameworks are particularly strategy-heavy, helping to clarify your positioning, audience, and key messages before a single line of website copy is written.

What industries do you write for?

I've written for pretty much every industry under the sun over the years, but I have particular expertise in tech, B2B, finance, and human resources. My tech startup clients especially love how I translate their complex concepts into compelling messaging that actually resonates with real humans.

Can you help with copywriting for tech industries?

Absolutely! Tech is my happy place. I've crafted heaps of content for B2B tech companies and tech startups who need their complex offerings explained in human language that converts.

Do you write B2B or B2C?

Both! Whether you're selling to businesses or consumers, the fundamentals remain: understand the audience deeply, speak to their pain points, and present your solution in a way that connects and converts.

Can you write for niche industries like alternative health?

You bet! I've had the pleasure of diving into all sorts of fascinating niches. Alternative health? Absolutely. Sustainable fashion? Done it. Cryptocurrency? Been there. The more specialized, the more I enjoy the research challenge.

Do you provide copywriting services for e-commerce platforms like Amazon?

Yes indeed! Product descriptions that sell, Amazon listings that rank, category copy that guides—I've got the e-commerce world covered too.

What copywriting experience do you have?

I've been a copywriter since 2017. Over the years, I've crafted copy and content for hundreds of businesses spanning various industries and sizes across the globe. My experience extends to partnerships with many different marketing agencies and studios, from B2B SaaS copywriting to beauty copywriting.

Have you worked with startups and SMEs like mine before?

Startups and SMEs are my bread and butter! I understand the unique challenges you face: tight budgets, the need for speed, and the importance of establishing a strong brand presence quickly. I've helped tech startups, SaaS companies, financial services, professional firms, and e-commerce businesses find their voice and get noticed.

Can you write technical content for specialized industries?

Absolutely! I love making complex topics accessible without dumbing them down. For ultra-specialized content, I conduct in-depth interviews with your experts to ensure technical accuracy, then translate those complex concepts into clear, engaging language that your audience will actually understand (and enjoy reading).

Will you be able to write for me if you haven't got any relevant experience in my field?

I've collaborated with brands across wildly different industries. My secret?

Research, research, research. I dive deep into understanding your audience, study competitor websites, analyze reviews, explore forums, and more—all before writing a single word.

So yes, expect a nifty brand questionnaire to fill out with all the juicy details.

Your insights + my strategy + my words = copy that helps you win.

What is the difference between a content writer and a copywriter?

Content writers inform and educate through blogs and articles, while copywriters (like me!) persuade and motivate action. It's the difference between "Here's what our product does" and "Here's why you need this product in your life right now."

What are the benefits of hiring a freelance copywriter?

Hiring me gives you flexibility, cost-effectiveness, and access to expertise without the overhead of a full-time hire or the bureaucracy of an agency. I adapt quickly to your needs, whether you need B2B tech copy or beauty brand messaging, providing high-quality content tailored specifically to your goals.

Why should I hire you instead of writing the copy myself or using AI?

DIY copy or AI tools might seem budget-friendly at first glance, but they typically lack the strategic thinking, audience understanding, and persuasive techniques that come from years of professional experience. My clients find that professional copy pays for itself through better conversion rates and stronger customer connections. Plus, I save you countless hours that you can invest back into your core business. As for AI, I'm not afraid to use it as a tool when appropriate, but with the crucial human strategic oversight and creativity that AI simply cannot provide.

My process & approach

What's your copywriting process like when working with startups?

My process is thorough but efficient—perfect for fast-moving startups. It typically involves four key phases: 1) A quick discovery call to understand your needs; 2) My signature brand questionnaire to capture your vision; 3) Research and drafting based on your input; 4) Revision and refinement until we nail it. Throughout, I maintain clear communication and stick to agreed timelines—because I know how precious time is when you're building something amazing.

How much input will I have in the copywriting process?

Your input is absolutely essential! While I bring expertise in copywriting and strategy, you bring expertise in your business. We're collaborative partners in this journey. You'll have multiple opportunities to provide feedback, and I genuinely value your insights. The most successful projects always come from strong client collaboration where we both bring our superpowers to the table.

How do we collaborate during a copywriting project?

I keep everything streamlined and transparent—no complicated processes here! We'll communicate primarily via email, with video calls as needed for more complex discussions. I use Google Docs for all drafts and revisions, which allows for easy commenting and tracking changes. This means you can leave feedback directly on specific sections, and I can address each point systematically. No detail gets lost in the shuffle.

What information do you need?

I believe in thorough preparation for stellar copy. I'll send you a brand questionnaire to capture all the nitty-gritty of your brand and vision. The more details you provide about your company, products, audience, and preferences, the better I can nail your voice. Already have brand guidelines or customer research? Even better! I'll devour those too.

How much do you need to know about my startup before you can write effectively?

The more I know, the better I can write—but don't worry if you don't have everything perfectly figured out yet. My brand questionnaire and discovery process are designed to extract the essential information efficiently. I ask targeted questions that help uncover your unique value proposition, even if you haven't fully articulated it yourself. Many clients tell me the questionnaire itself provides valuable clarity about their own brand positioning. It's like a mini-strategy session built into the process!

Can you work with my existing brand guidelines?

Absolutely! I'm very comfortable working within established brand guidelines. In fact, clear parameters often enhance creativity rather than limiting it. If your guidelines need some expansion in the verbal identity area, I can help develop those aspects too. Think of me as someone who can colour beautifully within the lines—or help draw new ones if needed.

How do you research my industry if you're not already familiar with it?

Research is my secret weapon! Before writing a single word, I immerse myself in your industry: studying competitor websites, devouring industry publications, analyzing customer reviews, exploring forums, and most importantly, asking you targeted questions about your market. This approach has allowed me to successfully write for diverse industries from fintech to sustainable fashion. I'm a quick study and love learning new things—it keeps the job exciting!

SEO & technical aspects

Is the content you write SEO optimised?

Absolutely! While no one can guarantee a first-page ranking (and if they do, run the other way!), I create content that satisfies both search engines and human readers. The quality of content plays a massive role in SEO success, and I have a proven track record of creating content that ranks well. I incorporate best practices for on-page optimization to increase your chances of ranking for relevant search terms.

Do you conduct keyword research as part of your service?

Yes! For website copy and blog projects, I include keyword research to identify valuable search terms that align with your business goals and audience needs. I focus on finding that sweet spot between search volume, competition level, and user intent to maximize your visibility for relevant searches.

How do you balance SEO needs with compelling copy?

The days of keyword stuffing are long gone—thank goodness! Modern SEO is about creating valuable, relevant content that naturally incorporates target keywords. I write first for your human audience while strategically weaving in SEO elements. The result is copy that ranks well and reads beautifully, never sacrificing readability or persuasiveness for search optimisation. It's the best of both worlds.

Can you optimize my existing website content for better performance?

Definitely. I offer content audits and optimization services that can breathe new life into your existing website. This typically involves analyzing current performance, identifying gaps and opportunities, restructuring content for better user experience, and enhancing SEO elements—all while maintaining or strengthening your brand voice. Sometimes a strategic refresh is all you need to get better results.

Do you write meta descriptions and title tags for website pages?

Yes! These crucial SEO elements are included with all website copywriting projects. They're your first impression in search results, so they need to incorporate key search terms while compelling users to click through to your site. I craft meta titles and descriptions that work hard for both search visibility and click-through rates.

Pricing & payment

How much do you charge for copywriting?

You can discover my rates here.

Regarding additional services, I quote on a per-project basis. Feel free to inform me of your budget when scheduling your discovery call.

Why don't you charge per word?

Simple answer: quality over quantity. Sometimes crafting the perfect headline takes more time and strategic thinking than writing three paragraphs. Paying per word often leads to bloated content filled with unnecessary fluff. Nobody wants that! I charge for the quality of the message and the strategic value it delivers, not the number of words I churn out.

Do you charge a deposit?

Yes, I require a 50% deposit before beginning any project. This helps secure your place in my schedule and demonstrates commitment from both sides. The remaining 50% is due upon project completion and your approval of the final deliverables. It's a partnership from the start!

How does payment work?

I send you a Stripe-payable invoice for 50% of the project fee before we start, and then send you another invoice for the remaining amount once the project is fully completed and approved. Simple, transparent, and hassle-free.

Do you offer package deals for ongoing work with growing startups?

Yes! For startups and SMEs that need ongoing content support, I offer monthly retainer packages at preferential rates. These can include a mix of blog posts, email newsletters, case studies, and other content needs.

What ROI can I expect from investing in professional copywriting?

While specific returns vary by business and project type, my clients typically report significant improvements in key metrics: higher conversion rates, improved engagement with content, stronger brand recall, and ultimately, better sales results. Professional copy isn't an expense—it's an investment that continues generating returns long after the project ends. The right words keep working for you 24/7!

Project details & logistics

How long do projects take?

The timeframe depends on a few factors: your project's scope and complexity, your desired turnaround time, how quickly you provide information, and my current workload. Typically, I can deliver shorter pieces within that same week, while larger projects requiring extensive research might need a few weeks. I prioritize both speed and quality, ensuring a meticulous approach without unnecessary delays. We'll establish a mutually agreed-upon deadline during our initial discussions.

How quickly can you complete my copywriting project?

Timeframes vary based on project scope, but I pride myself on efficiency without sacrificing quality. A brand messaging framework typically takes about a week, while website copywriting can range from 2-4 weeks depending on size. Blog posts can often be delivered within a few days. During our discovery call, we'll establish clear timeline expectations based on your specific needs.

Could you handle projects with short notice for fast-moving startups?

I pride myself on efficiency without sacrificing quality. A brand messaging framework typically takes about a week, website copywriting ranges from 2-4 weeks depending on size, and blog posts can often be delivered within a few days. During our discovery call, we'll establish clear timeline expectations based on your specific needs and urgency.

Could you handle projects with short notice?

Ideally, I need about two weeks' notice to schedule new projects. However, I understand that startups sometimes need quick turnarounds, and I do my best to accommodate urgent needs when my schedule allows. I can't always guarantee availability for rush projects, but it's always worth asking. Sometimes the stars align!

How many revisions are included in your copywriting service?

My standard packages include two rounds of revisions after the initial draft. This is usually plenty to get things perfect. If we need additional rounds, I charge at my hourly rate, but I'm proud to say this rarely happens. My thorough upfront discovery process means I usually get very close to the mark on the first draft.

What if I don't like the first draft?

I do my absolute best to get things right the first time, but copywriting is ultimately a collaborative process. If the initial draft doesn't hit the mark, I welcome your specific feedback. Your input helps me refine the copy until you're completely satisfied. My revision process is thorough and responsive, and I'm committed to delivering final copy that you're excited to publish. We'll get there together!

What happens after you deliver the final copy?

Once I send you the final version, you'll have two weeks to request any final tweaks. If you're also working with designers, I provide a complimentary post-design review to make sure the copy still works perfectly in the final layout. I'm also happy to discuss ongoing content needs or additional projects to support your growing business.

What if I have to change the project details or cancel it altogether?

I understand that business priorities can shift, especially for startups. If there are substantial changes to the project scope, we'll discuss adjustments to the timeline and cost. For cancellations after work has begun, a cancellation fee of up to 50% applies, depending on how much work has been completed. I always aim to be reasonable and fair if circumstances change!

Legal & confidentiality

Do you own the copyright to the work?

Once the final invoice is paid, the copyright transfers to you completely. You can use the content however you wish, make future modifications, or repurpose it across different channels—all under your name/brand. The words become yours to do with as you please.

How do you handle confidential information about my startup?

Confidentiality is extremely important to me. I routinely handle sensitive information about products, strategies, and business models. I'm happy to sign an NDA before you share any proprietary information, and I maintain strict data security practices to protect all client materials.

Do you require a contract for copywriting projects?

Yes, I provide a simple but comprehensive contract for all projects. This protects both of us by clearly outlining deliverables, timelines, payment terms, and ownership rights. It helps ensure we're aligned on expectations from the start and provides a reference point if questions arise. Clear agreements make for happy partnerships!

Getting started

I'm ready to work with you—what's the next step?

Fantastic! The first step is to book a discovery call using the calendar link on my website. This brief, no-pressure conversation helps us determine if we're a good fit and allows me to understand your specific needs. Following our call, I'll send you a detailed quote, and once approved, we'll get the contract and deposit sorted so we can begin transforming your brand communication. Let's create some magic together!

I'd like to work with you - what now?

Brilliant! Just drop me an email at amelie@ameliepollak.com with a few details about your project.

Once I have the basics, I'll create a detailed quote and send it to you ASAP.

After you approve the quote, I'll send you my brand questionnaire to gather more information about your background, product or service, message, and target audience.

Then I'll create an initial draft for you to review and request changes. This all happens on Google Docs for effortless iterations!

Once you're happy with the copy, I send you all the files and the final invoice. Simple as that!

Will we be a good fit to work together?

I work best with startups and SMEs who value quality communication and see copywriting as a strategic investment rather than just a task to check off. My ideal clients are collaborative, responsive, and appreciate the impact that powerful messaging can have on their business growth. If that sounds like you, we'll likely be a great match! Our discovery call will help us both determine if our working styles align and if we're destined for copywriting greatness together.

Can you provide ongoing copywriting support as my startup grows?

Absolutely! Many of my clients start with foundational projects like messaging frameworks or website copy, then transition to ongoing blog content or regular case studies as they grow. I love building long-term relationships with clients and watching their businesses flourish. Monthly retainer packages are available for ongoing content needs, providing both consistency and cost-efficiency.

Branding & messaging

What is a brand messaging framework and why does my startup need one?

Think of a brand messaging framework as your brand's DNA blueprint—it captures who you are, what you stand for, and how you talk in one tidy document. For startups, it's absolutely essential! When you're growing quickly and adding team members, this framework ensures everyone stays aligned on your messaging. It prevents the "too many cooks" problem where your brand voice gets diluted across different channels. Plus, it's a massive time-saver when creating any content, from website copy to social posts. My frameworks typically include your value proposition, audience personas, brand personality, key messages, tone of voice guidelines, and so much more—all the ingredients that make your brand distinctly you.

How do you approach creating a strong value proposition for startups?

Creating a killer value proposition for startups is all about finding that sweet spot between ambition and authenticity. I start by digging deep into your unique advantages, customer pain points, and competitive landscape. Unlike established businesses, startups need value propositions that are both aspirational (where you're headed) and credible (what you can deliver right now). The magic happens when we articulate not just what you do, but why it matters to your specific audience. I'm a stickler for simplicity here—if your value proposition needs a PhD to understand, we're doing it wrong! The best ones pack a punch in just a few words that make your ideal customers think, "This is exactly what I've been looking for!"

Startup-specific services

Can you help with my investor pitch or funding deck?

Absolutely! Investor pitch copy is where storytelling meets strategy—and I love working on these high-stakes projects. I help founders craft compelling narratives that tie your vision, market opportunity, product solution, and business model into one irresistible investment story. I'm particularly good at translating technical innovations into clear, persuasive language that makes investors sit up and take notice. Whether you need a complete pitch deck overhaul or just want to refine your key messaging, I'll help you strike that crucial balance between visionary thinking and grounded credibility that investors crave.

What makes a good website homepage for a startup?

A stellar startup homepage is a beautiful balancing act! It needs to be crystal clear about what you do (no mysterious "solutions for tomorrow" vagueness), while immediately conveying your unique value. The best startup homepages have a knockout headline that stops visitors in their tracks, a subheading that clarifies your offer, and a primary call-to-action that's impossible to miss. You need social proof elements—even if you're just getting started—and enough detail to build credibility without overwhelming visitors. I craft homepage copy that does all this heavy lifting while feeling effortlessly simple to your visitors. Remember, your homepage isn't about saying everything—it's about saying the right things to get visitors to take the next step.

How do you write copy that appeals to both technical and non-technical audiences?

This is my specialty—bridging the gap between tech experts and everyday users! I call it the "translator approach." First, I immerse myself in the technical details (yes, I actually enjoy reading technical specs and API documentation—weird, I know). Then I identify the underlying benefits that matter to non-technical folks. The trick is maintaining accuracy while stripping away unnecessary complexity.

For mixed audiences, I often use a layered approach: lead with universal benefits everyone understands, follow with moderately technical explanations, and provide deeper technical details for those who want them. Strategic use of analogies, visual language, and concrete examples helps make complex concepts tangible. My tech clients particularly love how I can make their complex products sound simple without dumbing them down—honoring the sophistication of the technology while making it accessible to those who hold the budget strings.

Do you have experience writing for fintech or financial services?

Fintech and financial services are right in my wheelhouse! I've crafted copy for payment platforms, investment apps, financial comparison sites, and traditional financial institutions looking to modernize their messaging. The regulatory environment in finance makes this niche particularly interesting—creating copy that's both compliant and compelling is a challenge I love tackling. I understand how to translate complex financial concepts into clear benefits while maintaining the trust and credibility that's absolutely essential in this space. Whether you're disrupting traditional banking or offering specialised financial tools, I can help you communicate your value in a way that resonates with both financially savvy audiences and everyday users.

How do you approach copywriting for SaaS products?

SaaS copywriting is all about transforming features into outcomes! I start by getting under the hood of your product—understanding not just what it does, but the problems it solves and the workflows it improves. For SaaS specifically, I focus on addressing both rational concerns (ROI, implementation, security) and emotional drivers (reducing stress, saving time, looking good to bosses or clients).

My SaaS approach typically involves mapping messaging to the buyer journey—from awareness content that educates about the problem, to consideration pages that position your solution uniquely, to decision-stage elements that overcome objections and drive action. I'm particularly attentive to creating that crucial "aha moment" in your copy, where prospects can clearly envision how much better their work life will be with your solution. And of course, I never forget about SEO—because the best SaaS copy in the world won't matter if prospects can't find you!

What types of content work best for B2B tech companies?

For B2B tech, it's all about the perfect blend of educational value and strategic positioning! I've found that in-depth content that showcases your expertise while solving real problems works wonders. Think comprehensive guides, data-driven research pieces, specific use case studies, comparison articles, and thoughtful opinion pieces on industry trends.

Each piece should demonstrate your deep understanding of your customers' challenges while subtly positioning your solution as the natural answer. The best B2B tech content educates first and sells second—building trust and credibility that eventually converts much better than pushy sales content. And don't forget technical decision-makers love detail, while business stakeholders need outcomes and ROI clearly spelled out.

Conversion & optimisation

What is conversion copywriting and how does it differ from regular copywriting?

Conversion copywriting is like regular copywriting with a business degree and a psychology minor! While all good copywriting aims to engage readers, conversion copywriting has a laser focus on driving specific actions—whether that's signing up, downloading, purchasing, or booking a call.

The key difference is in the research and structure. Conversion copy digs deeper into audience pain points, objections, and buying triggers. It follows proven persuasion frameworks, strategically addresses objections before they arise, and crafts calls-to-action that feel like natural next steps rather than pushy sales tactics.

I approach conversion copy as a beautiful blend of art and science—combining storytelling techniques with psychological principles and testing methodologies. The goal isn't just pretty words; it's words that perform. And the best part? Every element can be tested and optimized over time to continuously improve your results. It's copywriting with accountability!

Can you help optimise my existing website copy for better conversions?

Absolutely—in fact, optimization projects are some of my favorites! I'll start by analyzing your current copy through both a conversion and SEO lens, identifying opportunities to clarify your value proposition, strengthen your calls-to-action, address hidden objections, and improve your keyword targeting.

I look for places where visitors might be getting confused, bored, or unconvinced, then strengthen those weak links. I pay special attention to headlines, subheadings, CTAs, and first/last sentences of paragraphs (where attention is highest). For many clients, small but strategic copy changes have resulted in conversion improvements of 20-50%—proving that words really do matter to your bottom line!

Location & availability

Where are you based and do you work with clients globally?

I'm based in the UK, but my laptop and I work with amazing clients all over the world! While many of my clients are UK-based startups and tech companies, I regularly collaborate with businesses across Europe, North America, Australia, and beyond. Thanks to the wonders of video calls, Google Docs, and reasonable scheduling, geographic boundaries don't limit our ability to create fantastic copy together.

I'm comfortable adapting to different English language preferences (British English, American English, or that lovely international hybrid), and I'm particularly skilled at helping global brands find a consistent voice that works across multiple regions.
